The Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex is breaking new ground this fall as host of the first Men’s 18+ 2.5 USTA League in the Phoenix area. The league, which began play on Tuesday, October 14, features two local teams — the Average Joes and the Purple Cobras — inspired by the classic comedy Dodgeball.

The Surprise Tennis Club had a summer to remember, with all three of its USTA combo league teams capturing their divisions this season. Combo leagues pair different level players together—such as a 3.0 with a 2.5 for the 5.5 league, or a 3.5 with a 3.0 for the 6.5 league—making them a fun, non-advancing way for members of different skill levels to meet, compete, and grow as a unified club community.
After going undefeated in Albuquerque, the Surprise Tennis Club 18+ 3.5 men’s team is headed to the USTA National Championships October 10–12 right here in Surprise. Let’s pack the courts and cheer them on!
The Surprise Tennis Club is proud to announce it has received a USTA Community Grant to support its mission of promoting tennis in the Surprise, Arizona community. To celebrate both the grant and National Tennis Month, the Club hosted a free Wednesday Night Doubles event on May 7, 2025, at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
On May 4, The Redeem Team defeated MTC Billy Goats 4-1 to win the USTA 18+ 3.5 District Championship. With the victory, the Surprise, AZ-based team advances to the USTA Southwest Sectionals in Albuquerque, NM, taking place August 8–10, where they’ll face top teams from New Mexico, El Paso, and Arizona for a chance to reach Nationals.

The Surprise 18+ 6.0 team made a remarkable showing at the USTA National Championships, securing fourth place among a staggering 1,220 teams and 18,278 players within the 18+ 6.0 division from across the country.
The Surprise Tennis Club is celebrating after an impressive showing at the USTA Sectional Championships in Tucson, Arizona, from September 26-29, 2024. Our mixed doubles teams delivered outstanding performances, bringing home significant victories and paving the way for the upcoming National Championships.
This past August 9-11, the Surprise Tennis Club Men's 18+ 3.5 team, captained by Keith Buikema and Chris Heath, and Women's 18+ 3.0 team, captained by Nicole Heath and Moyra Steele, represented us proudly at the Sectional Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
