Surprise Tennis Club Sweeps Summer USTA Leagues
The Surprise Tennis Club had a summer to remember, with all three of its USTA combo league teams capturing their divisions this season. Combo leagues pair different level players together—such as a 3.0 with a 2.5 for the 5.5 league, or a 3.5 with a 3.0 for the 6.5 league—making them a fun, non-advancing way for members of different skill levels to meet, compete, and grow as a unified club community.

The women’s 5.5 team, Summer Love, captained by Patti Blaisdell and Nicole Heath, delivered a dominant performance all season long. They went undefeated with an impressive 8-0 record, setting the tone for what would be a remarkable summer for the club.
The mixed 5.5 team, Drop Shots and Donuts, brought plenty of drama to the season. Under the leadership of Angie Rabb, the team battled through closely contested matches and ultimately clinched their league victory in the narrowest of margins. The championship came down to a tiebreak, with the team edging out their rivals by just two fewer sets lost to take the lead.
The men’s 6.5 team, Surprise Dingers, capped off the sweep in thrilling fashion. Captained by Billy Steele, the Dingers went head-to-head against fellow Surprise rivals, the Ball Crushers, and emerged victorious with a hard-fought 4-3 win. Their determination and grit secured the final piece of the club’s summer triumph.
The summer combo season may be about mixing levels, but at Surprise Tennis Club, one thing was consistent across all teams: victory.
