Surprise Tennis Club Launches First Men’s 18+ 2.5 USTA League in Phoenix Area

The Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex is breaking new ground this fall as host of the first Men’s 18+ 2.5 USTA League in the Phoenix area. The league, which began play on Tuesday, October 14, features two local teams — the Average Joes and the Purple Cobras — inspired by the classic comedy Dodgeball.

Although both teams are based in Surprise, players hail from across the Valley. Matches take place Tuesday evenings and include two doubles lines and one singles line. As a non-advancing league, play will not continue to sectionals or nationals, making it an ideal entry point for new players to experience USTA competition in a fun, relaxed environment.

In the season opener, the Purple Cobras struck first, earning a 2–1 victory by taking the singles and D2 lines. The teams are captained by Lawson Rabb and non-playing captain Chris Heath (3.0), who are both helping to build enthusiasm for league play at the beginner level.

With friendly rivalries and growing interest from newcomers, this new 2.5 league marks an exciting addition to the local tennis community.
